The actual procedure can take from about 1 hour up to 3 or 4 hours. It all depends on the complexity of your particular needs and goals. Rhinoplasty can be performed in one of two ways: Depending on your procedure, our surgeons may be able to perform surgery by working through the nostrils. For more complex procedures involving the shape of the nose, incisions are almost always made that will require sutures, and the skin of the nose is usually separated from the bone and cartilage of the nose. This allows the surgeon to sculpt and reshape the bone and cartilage of the nose as desired.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty surgery is different than most plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures because it most often involves altering bone and cartilage. For this reason the healing process can take much longer than procedures that only involve skin, muscle and fat.

After surgery your nose will be very tender and you should avoid touching it or wearing glasses for at least the first week or so. Also during this time you will likely be directed by your surgeon to refrain from any activity that would increase your heart rate or blood pressure. After this initial stage of recovery, you will be able to return to work but continue to avoid strenuous activities. Generally after a few weeks internal and external incisions are healed but swelling will remain for many months, gradually improving over time. Typically after about a year your nose will have completely healed to is new shape and appearance.
