Facial Plastic Surgeons Who Specialize in Facelifts and Neck Lifts at Village Institute of Plastic Surgery
Facelift surgery helps people look younger by removing extra skin and tightening the tissue underneath. Facelift surgery isn't meant to change the way a person looks but to make them look like a younger version of themselves. Deep-plane and SMAS facelifts are the two most common ways to do it. We strive to deliver the best facelifts The Villages has to offer. Dr. Soares is certified by two different boards and has a lot of experience doing both types of facelifts on patients at the Village Institute of Plastic Surgery in The Villages.
Natural, Long-lasting Results
Gravity, sun exposure, and the pressures of daily life may all contribute to wrinkles and sagging skin as we age. These characteristics can appear in the form of deep creases, a slacking jawline, and folds and fat deposits in the neck. A facelift, clinically known as a rhytidectomy procedure, doesn’t stop the aging process, but it can turn back the clock for a number of years. A facelift significantly reduces signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and smoothing the skin of your face.
Look Like You Again
If you're getting wrinkles, bags under your eyes, and other signs of getting older, you might be thinking about getting a facelift. But what are some advantages? A Facelift tightens loose skin around your cheeks, chin, and jawline, showing off your natural contours. It tightens or removes the loose skin around your neck, making you look younger. It smooths out the lines formed in your forehead over time from frowning and squinting that take years off your face. These are just a few of the many benefits that could happen. During your consultation, Dr. Soares can determine if you would benefit from a facelift.
Ready for a Refresh
The good news is that most people are considered excellent candidates for facelift surgery. Obviously, all patients should have a comprehensive consultation to establish whether a facelift will be beneficial. However, there are certain guidelines for establishing if you are a suitable candidate for facelift surgery. Many candidates are often people who have had years of sun exposure and who do not engage in safe skin care measures, such as regular use of sunscreen.
About Facelift Surgery
After receiving medical clearance from your primary physician, your facelift procedure will be performed by Dr. Soares at our on-site, accredited ambulatory surgical facility. At VIP in The Villages facelift surgery usually takes three to four hours. Patients usually elect to have additional procedures performed, such as Blepharoplasty, Brow Lift Surgery, Chin Augmentation, and even Ear Surgery. While combining procedures will require a longer surgery time, the benefits are significant. Combining procedures means that you will not have multiple recovery periods. Combining procedures can also reduce the overall costs of procedures and lead to considerable savings.
Starting at the hair above the temples and continuing downward and to behind the ear, incisions are made in a natural line that extends in front of the ear or just within that cartilage at the front of the ear. If the neck is also being addressed, a small incision is made under the chin. The surgeon then separates the skin from the fat and muscles of the face. Dr. Soares may use liposuction to reduce fat beneath the facial skin or in the neck and chin to contour a more youthful appearance. Dr. Soares then tightens the underlying muscle and membrane, re-drapes the skin, and removes excess skin resulting from the procedure. Suturing is performed discreetly to avoid visible scarring as much as possible. Bandages, when used, are typically removed within a few days after your surgery, and when they are removed, you should expect your face to appear bruised and puffy for one to two weeks.
Recovering After Your Surgery
At VIP in The Villages facelift patients should be up and about within a day or two. It's best to avoid strenuous activity for at least two weeks following surgery. After surgery, you can expect your skin to be sensitive and numb for several days. Be especially gentle when washing and touching your face and when brushing or combing your hair. During the first few days of your recovery, your face may look and feel rather strange.
Some bruising may persist for two or three weeks, and you may tire easily. But by the third week, you will have moved past the most important phase of your recovery and will begin to realize your new, more youthful appearance and feel much better. Most patients are back at work within ten to fifteen days after surgery. To help you feel more comfortable about returning to work or venturing out, special camouflage makeup can be used to mask any remaining bruising. Dr. Soares will provide specific guidelines as you gradually resume normal activities. Most likely, you will be advised to avoid strenuous activity, sex, and heavy housework for at least two weeks and to come in for a number of follow-up examinations to assure a smooth recovery. During your recovery and after your surgery, avoid alcohol, steam baths, and saunas for several months. Remember, the less energy you expend on activity, the more energy your body can use to heal.

Facelift surgery is a very individualized procedure that is unique for each patient. The exact placement of incisions and the sequence of events depends on your facial structure and the techniques used by your surgeon. Dr. Soares will adjust your facelift procedure for your unique goals to assure the best possible results.
Facelift surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered under medical insurance for cosmetic purposes. The Village Institute of Plastic Surgery offers financing and payment options for your convenience.
There is not usually significant discomfort after facelift surgery. However, if you do experience any discomfort, it can be reduced or eliminated with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Soares. Severe or persistent pain or a sudden swelling of your face is not normal and should be immediately reported by calling our office. Some numbness of the skin is, however, quite normal. Numbness will fade within a few weeks or months as you completely recover. It is important to keep your head elevated and as still as possible for a couple of days immediately after surgery. This will help keep the swelling down and allow for the most critical period of your recovery to go smoothly.
