Facial Plastic Surgeons who Specialize in Blepharoplasty at Village Institute of Plastic Surgery
In general, eyelid surgery, called "Blepharoplasty", is a procedure used to improve the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids. Different techniques address particular issues, but the procedure generally involves reducing excess skin and fat that can develop in the upper and lower eyelids.
We strive to deliver the best blepharoplasty The Villages has to offer. The procedure is performed at our on-site, accredited ambulatory surgical facility in The Villages by Dr. Soares. Blepharoplasty can often be done awake without the need for general anesthesia. Dr. Soares will carefully make two incisions in the upper eyelid and remove fat if necessary and a segment of excess skin. The incision will be closed so that the position of the scar is hidden within the crease of the upper eyelid. Dr. Soares‘ skills, combined with the location of the incision, make any scaring almost invisible.
Rejuvenate Your Outlook
Your eyes are the most expressive element of your face. Unfortunately, they are also often the first area of your face to show signs of aging. Baggy eyelids are often caused by excess fat that develops in the normal fat pads around the eyes and excess skin.
Sometimes skin folds may be heavy enough to partially obstruct vision. This problem may even be encountered in patients of a relatively young age if it is a familial trait. Blepharoplasty is a procedure to correct heavy, wrinkled, or baggy eyelids and restore a fresher, more youthful look to the eyes. If you are not happy with the appearance of your eyes and would like to discuss how eyelid surgery might be a solution. Call our offices at (352) 259-8599 and schedule a free consultation today!
It’s Time.
Between the ages of 40 and 75, excess skin on the eyelids can become an annoyance and a cause for concern. In addition, age and sun exposure can cause your eyelids to droop and become puffy or heavy, resulting in additional weight in front of the eyes. If you have seen these symptoms and wish to get them fixed, blepharoplasty is likely a viable choice for you. The majority of individuals in good physical condition, without vision impairments, and who do not smoke are suitable candidates for blepharoplasty. Please arrange an appointment immediately to learn more about our eyelid surgery treatment.
Depending on your condition and the aspects of your eyes that you are interested in correcting or altering, Dr. Soares may recommend more than one procedure to ensure the results you are interested in achieving. The following descriptions offer a general overview of the different procedures that may be needed to achieve your goals.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed through the inside of the lower eyelid. This is referred to as trans-conjunctival. In order to reduce “baggy” lower eyelids, it is generally necessary to reduce the amount of fat that makes up the natural fat pads under our eyes. If there is an issue with excess skin in the lower eyelids, a small segment may be removed with an incision that is made just below the lower eyelashes, again virtually invisible and hidden by the lower eyelashes.
Look Refreshed
At VIP in The Villages blepharoplasty patients will be monitored by Dr. Soares to ensure your recovery and approve your release after you have safely recovered from the anesthesia. It will be necessary for a friend or loved one to drive you home after surgery.
Dr. Soares will provide initial instructions and any prescriptions that are deemed necessary. After surgery, you may experience some pain or discomfort, but this can be mitigated with medication. Like most plastic surgery procedures, you should expect some bruising and swelling, which will subside within a few days. Any remaining swelling should be completely gone after a few weeks.
Vibrant, refreshed Eyes
Dr. Soares will monitor your recovery during your follow-up visits at our office and advise you on activities that you should avoid as you recover from blepharoplasty. You should be feeling good within a few days and be able to return to social activities as soon as you feel comfortable with your appearance.
Is Blepharoplasty Right For You?
This is not a painful procedure, and recovery following blepharoplasty is usually simple. Any discomfort felt following surgery is typically mild and easily managed with pain medications.
While blepharoplasty hazards are uncommon, they do occur, like with any operation. Side effects include dry eyes, weeping, and scarring. Dr. Soares will discuss any risks and potential side effects with you during your visit.
Patients who have visual impairment due to excess eyelid skin can sometimes get their insurance to cover a percentage of the expense of blepharoplasty surgery. Village Institute of Plastic Surgery does not accept insurance. However, we can still propose financing alternatives that provide qualified candidates with low-interest monthly payment plans. Dr. Soares and his team believe that treatment should be accessible to all persons who seek it, and we will do everything possible to make your eyelid surgery more reasonable at our Fruitland Park and Clermont offices.
