Tummy Tuck Procedure

At VIP in The Villages tummy tuck procedures are performed at our on-site state licensed ambulatory surgical center and general anesthesia is used during this procedure. The procedure begins with two incisions. One incision is made below the belt line close to the pubic area for concealment purposes. This incision runs from one site of your torso to the other. The other incision is an incision around the navel.

Dr. Yi will then lift the skin from the underlying fat tissue and muscle. The underlying muscles of the abdomen are then tightened with permanent sutures. The surgeon then removes excess fat and skin and the incision below the waistline is closed. The last step in the tummy tuck is the positioning of your navel in its new anatomically correct location. A drainage tube will be used in the first few days after surgery to drain fluids. Incision protection along with abdominal garments will also be used immediately following surgery. You may also need to stay overnight for observation.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Immediately following tummy tuck surgery, patients should expect to focus on relaxing and recovery as much as possible. Patients should expect bruising and swelling and some discomfort which can be managed with pain medication. Sutures will be removed in usually about a week and most bruising and swelling will subside within two weeks.

During your recovery, our surgeons will monitor your recovery closely and provide direction on activities as you progress towards full recovery. It is important to follow these instructions closely for the best results. You will be cleared to go back to work based on the type of work you do. Office type work can be resumed usually in a week or two. Strenuous work such as construction should not be resumed for 60 to 90 days depending on your recovery. Again your recovery will be closely monitored Dr. Yi and our staff will provide guidance to help you recover as quickly as possible.
