Central Trunk Lift
A lower Body Lift or Trunk Lift is often the recommended procedure for patients who have experienced significant weight loss due to bariatric surgery or diet and exercise. A lower body lift is a rather significant procedure to address contour to the entire middle section of the body by tightening and removing excess skin in a combination of abdominoplasty and buttock lift. Additional contouring may be recommended depending on your needs.

The Contour You’ve Been Waiting For
This procedure is performed at our onsite state-licensed ambulatory surgical center in The Villages. At VIP in The Villages Lower Body Lift patients are fully sedated with general anesthesia during the procedure.
The abdominoplasty or tummy tuck procedure begins with two incisions. One incision is made below the belt line close to the pubic area for concealment purposes. This incision runs from one side of your torso to the other. The other incision is an incision around the navel. Dr. Yi will then lift the skin and fat from the underlying muscle. The underlying muscles of the abdomen are then tightened. Excess fat and skin is removed, and the incision below the waistline is closed. The last step in the tummy tuck is the positioning of your navel in its new, anatomically correct location.
During a buttocks lift, excess skin and fat are removed below the back’s waistline, the buttocks are lifted, and the incision is closed below the waistline to conceal scarring. It is not uncommon for patients who have lost a lot of weight to experience the same losses to their buttocks resulting in a flat bottom. For patients desiring restored volume in their buttocks, this skin and fat can sometimes be used to augment the buttocks!

Take the time to plan
After surgery, the patient is moved to a recovery room, where they will be closely monitored before being released. After Lower Body Lift surgery, patients should focus on relaxing and recovering as much as possible. Patients should expect bruising and swelling and some discomfort which can be managed with pain medication. Sutures will be removed in usually about a week to 10 days. Drains will be used initially to drain fluids, and pressure garments will be used to support the patient’s new appearance.
During your recovery, the patient is monitored closely and provided with direction on activities as they progress towards full recovery. It is important to follow these instructions closely for the best results. You will be cleared to go back to work based on the type of work you do. Office-type work can be resumed usually in a week or two. Strenuous work, such as construction, should not be resumed for 60 to 90 days, depending on your recovery. Again your recovery will be closely monitored by Dr. Yi with the goal of helping you recover safely and as quickly as possible. Patients are usually able to return to limited activities within three to four weeks, and it may take six months to a year for all swelling to be completely gone, and the true final results of the procedure can be realized.
Stunning.
Detailed post-operative instructions on how to take care of your incisions will be provided to you. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, it can take three to six months to return to your regular schedule.
Even though you may be able to see that your excess skin has been removed, the swelling won't go down for three to six months, and the incision scars might not fade for a year. You must maintain a constant weight in order for your benefits to last a lifetime. Your body and skin will age with time, but if you eat healthily and have a healthy lifestyle, you should notice long-term benefits.

Although some soreness is expected, it may normally be easily controlled with the help of the medication your doctor will prescribe.
Body lift side effects include swelling, numbness, scarring, bleeding at the incision sites, infection, and nerve damage. However, this procedure is safe and effective for getting rid of extra skin and fat.
After a large weight loss, certain medical insurance policies could pay for the cost of additional skin removal. Call your insurance company to examine your options for coverage. For your convenience, VIP offers payment and financing options.
Yes, you will need someone to drive you home. In addition, you should arrange for assistance during the recovery period to help you manage daily tasks. You will be unable to drive for up to six weeks. In addition, if you have small children at home, it is vital you have someone who can help you care for them, as you will be unable to lift heavy objects or children while you are healing.
